Meet the Team

Founder/Owner: Dr. Becky Steensen is a nationally certified school psychologist with over 18 years of experience in Wisconsin and Colorado. Her expertise is the backbone of Empower Ed, ensuring that parents receive the highest quality support and feel confident in their student’s education. She recently obtained her Director of Special Education and Pupil Services licensure and understands the different educational systems and the professional, legal, and ethical implications. Dr. Becky understands that all learners are unique and works within a strength-based approach, believing that if we know a child’s strengths, we can help them address their needs.

Lead Advocate/Consultant: Jodi VanErem has over 30 years of experience working with students with disabilities and unique learning styles. As a former special education teacher and program support teacher, Jodi has a deep understanding of both general and special education systems. She has first-hand experience implementing effective strategies to meet the needs of diverse students, including those with significant behavioral challenges. In her most recent role, she developed numerous Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure students had equitable access to education. Jodi is fearless in advocating for the best interests of students.

Chief Technology Officer: Tommy Steensen is a self-taught technology expert. While he is currently a full-time student, he takes the time to ensure that Empower Ed’s technology runs smoothly and efficiently. He also created the website and is responsible for regularly updating it to meet the needs of our clients. Empower Ed would be lost without Tommy’s help and expertise.

Outside Consultants: Empower Ed has access to a network of collaborative consultants who ensure our staff remains highly informed and educated. Many of these consultants are leaders in their fields, with backgrounds including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, special education teachers, and school administrators.
